In recognition of the importance of biotechnology to national development, the Federal Executive Council on 23rd of April 2001 approved the National Biotechnology Policy, which led to the establishment of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) in November 2001 under the supervision of Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The act that establishes NABDA referred to as National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022 mandated the Agency to carry out Research and Development programmes on biotechnology priority areas of food, agriculture, health, industry, environment and other strategic sectors for national biotechnology utilization in Nigeria as well as promote, co-ordinate and deploy cutting edge biotechnology research and development activities nationwide.
At the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), we envision a future where biotechnology serves as a key driver of economic growth, public health, food security, and environmental sustainability.
